Features of the Thaermae del Forte
A corner of Paradise in a subtropical microclimate
The resort lies 40 km from Cagliari in the bay of Santa Margherita di Pula on a stretch of coast protected by a line of mountains. This provides natural shelter from the island’s northerly winds, maintaining levels of humidity and warmth that are unique in Sardinia. Virtually a subtropical microclimate, the sea temperature here is a good two degrees above that in other parts of the island and the rainforest-like vegetation thrives in its natural beauty.
It was only natural for one of the most internationally renowned Thalassotherapy Centres to be developed in this corner of paradise. It is a success built on twenty years of research by the medical team of the Thaermae del Forte led by Dr. Angelo Cerina. It was this team which designed and perfected a method which has re-written the history of wellness. Indeed, while the French school based its therapies on a system of tubs of seawater at a constant temperature, over 34 degrees, the Thaermae at Forte Village’s experimentations led them to discover the enormous benefits of a series of tubs of seawater at different temperatures but above all with different salt contents. A vital element in the Thaermae del Forte’s Integrated Thalassotherapy treatment is sea oil, natural seawater with a high magnesium content.
The osmotic effect that is produced greatly accelerates ion exchange between the water and the body. This helps to drain excess fluids and allows magnesium, an essential muscle relaxant, to be absorbed. After these extraordinary results including being awarded international prizes, the Centre for Research in Medical Bioclimatology, Biotechnologies, and Natural Medicines of Milan University has promoted the Thalassotherapy Research Centre at Thaermae del Forte. This is unique in Europe and constitutes a new, essential development in Wellness Medicine.
The therapy is “integrated” because it forms a harmonious system of treatments that thoroughly assess the patient, integrating a focussed Thalassotherapy course with massage therapy and beauty treatments. These therapies are enhanced by immersion in baths with a high salt concentration. The variety of treatments that can be integrated is enormous: from shiatsu in a separate room to massages in water, moxa, rehabilitative physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractics with craniosacral techniques. You can also experience scrubs and hydro-massages with the typical plants and essences of Sardinia and the Sardinian sea.
