Valentine’s Day

If you do not remember the slightest folly that love ever led you into, you have not loved

(William Shakespeare)

Life isn’t always ready-written, and even when we feel bound by commitments and duties we can break our daily ritual and commit some folly… for love, of course. Love makes us “crazy”, there’s nothing new about that. Neurophysiologists have confirmed that when we are in love our midbrain releases dopamine, a neuro-transmitter that produces pleasure and euphoria. Our reason gives way and we are capable of any act.

Literature has been enriched by crazy feats, the fruit of unrequitable love: from Antony and Cleopatra to Romeo and Juliet, on to Lara and Zhivago, Anna and Vronsky, Elizabeth Bennet and Mister Darcy, down to Bella and Edward Cullen.

But alongside these fantastic loves, born of the imagination of marvellous minds, there are others, halfway between reality and fiction, such as Grace Kelly’s love for prince Rainier of Monaco, or the tormented love between the painter Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, or the passionate love between Alain Delon and Romy Schneider.

And we shouldn’t forget Edward VIII, the British sovereign who found love stronger than a crown and ended his 325-day reign by declaring to the microphones of the BBC, “I have found it impossible to discharge my duties as King without the help and support of the woman I love”.

And to remain in the United Kingdom, let’s remember Prince William’s romantic flight, when he used a helicopter of Her Majesty’s army to go and see his girlfriend Kate.

In short, love with its follies involves everyone, without distinction. So, for the sake of the highest sentiment, we can let ourselves go, abandon our daily routine and elope. And to live our feelings to the best, we need to choose a perfect place. What about Sardinia, where the sea and the sky meet and reflect each other in infinite love? And how can we describe the Forte Village resort at Santa Margherita di Pula except as a veritable Paradise? Immersed in unspoilt nature, coddled by the treatments in the famous thalassotherapy centre, welcomed in the exclusive Spa suite and pampered with prestigious candle-lit gourmet dinners, even the most romantic dreams will come true.

So if love is the strongest and most wonderful of all follies, Forte Village’s Romantic Escape package (available from 07/05 to 11/06 and from 27/08 to 30/10) will guarantee a weekend where all wishes are granted.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
