New Year Resolutions – Five Top Tips for Regenerating your Skin in Winter!

Spa & Wellness

-Sunscreen even in winter:

Taking care of your skin means using sun cream 365 days a year – every morning and afternoon, if you can. Usually people associate sun screen with the summer season and this is where many people go wrong, because skin needs just as much protection during the cold season too!

In fact, in winter, UV rays can inflame the skin, causing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which makes using sunscreen all-year-around an absolute must!

Dry skin beware!

In winter the skin becomes dry and without its dose of melanin it tends to crack more easily. As mentioned previously, sun cream is essential, but maintaining the right moisture levels is equally important.

We recommend carrying a moisturising cream for face and lips around with your everyday. Applying it regularly is essential and don’t forget to give your skin lots of TLC at night too!

Watch what you eat:

There’s an endless list of food we should all cut down on, but here’s just a few of the more common ones:

  • Chocolate: we could write a book on the subject, but the first thing to keep in mind is that chocolate is like red wine: a little bit is good for you, too much is bad for you.
  • Nougat and egg whites: egg whites are an excellent nutritional element but, in high doses, they are harmful to the arteries and can raise your cholesterol levels. This means excessive fat deposits, digestive problems and skin redness.
  • Salami and cured meats: This applies all year around, but over the Christmas season these little devils are lurking at every dinner table. Not only do they contain far too much salt, but the way they are seasoned can really affect the health of your skin.
  • Candied fruits: yes, they’re irresistible, we know, but if you eat too many your skin will suffer. And the sugar content is so high, it doesn’t even bear thinking about! IT’S AN ABSOLUTE NO-NO GIRLS!
  • We know it’s cold outside and there’s nothing more comforting and warming for the soul –

and belly – than food, but don’t overdo it… Try cosying up under a nice warm blanket or duvet instead.

If you’ve overdone it over the Christmas season…

…and your skin is paying the consequences, a natural remedy is constant washing with sulphur soap. Yes, you read that right…

Scrub up well – naturally

The cold often dries out the skin leaving a thin, almost imperceptible layer of tiny spots, which is actually a mild form dermatitis. To remove them, all you need to do is use a good body scrub every now and then. How do you make one? By mixing honey and sugar together! It’s 100% natural and you’ll see excellent results, even the very first time you use it.

Enjoy!
